An educational platform built with honesty at its heart
Vylentro was founded on a simple belief: that everyone deserves clear, jargon-free guidance as the world moves online — regardless of age or prior experience.
How Vylentro came to be
Vylentro grew out of a series of community workshops run in Cornwall in 2019. Sarah Pemberton, then an adult education tutor, began running informal evening sessions at the local library to help retirees understand how to use computers and navigate the internet safely.
The sessions were consistently oversubscribed. Demand far exceeded what a fortnightly library session could satisfy, and participants repeatedly asked for something more structured — something they could return to, progress through, and feel genuinely supported by.
By 2021, those sessions had evolved into a formalised educational programme. Vylentro was established as a dedicated platform in 2022, with a deliberate commitment to one guiding principle: education first, always.
We have never promised income, employment, or transformation. We teach digital skills, explain how the online world works, and help people approach it with appropriate confidence and caution.
Our mission and educational standards
Education-First
Everything we create is educational in nature. We help people understand digital tools and online environments — we do not recruit, place, or guarantee any form of work or income.
Clarity Over Hype
We deliberately avoid exaggerated language. You'll never see "life-changing" promises or fabricated success stories on Vylentro. We describe what we offer, accurately and plainly.
Gradual, Respectful Growth
Our learning is structured to build confidence progressively. Nobody is rushed. Nobody is made to feel inadequate. Progress is personal, and pace is set by the learner.
Teaching methodology
Our approach is shaped by research into adult learning and practical experience with older learners. We know that adults absorb new information best when it is connected to real-life context, free from pressure, and delivered with genuine respect for prior life experience.
Clear language: We avoid technical jargon wherever possible. When technical terms are necessary, we explain them plainly before using them.
Layered structure: Our programmes build incrementally. Each topic lays groundwork for the next, so there are no sudden leaps of understanding required.
Honest expectations: We explain both what digital tools can help you do and what they cannot do. We don't create unrealistic pictures of the online world.
Practical focus: Learning is grounded in everyday tasks — sending an email, checking a website, recognising a suspicious link. The goal is always real-world usability.
How we've grown
The First Workshops
Sarah Pemberton begins running free digital literacy sessions at Par Library in Cornwall. Demand quickly exceeds capacity.
Remote Learning Pivot
During the pandemic, workshops move online. This reveals both new demand and new challenges — and the idea for a dedicated platform begins to take shape.
Structured Programmes Developed
David Nkosi and Helen Maguire join the team. Together, they develop the first structured learning curricula, covering digital basics and online safety.
Vylentro Launches
The Vylentro platform launches formally at vylentro.com, offering structured educational programmes to UK adults aged 55 and over.
Growing Community
The platform reaches 3,000+ registered learners. New articles, support resources, and a community forum are added in response to learner feedback.
Why clarity matters more than hype
In a world of exaggerated promises and high-pressure marketing, we believe there is real value in simply saying what something is and what it isn't. Vylentro will not tell you that learning digital skills will transform your finances, secure your future, or solve your problems.
What we will say is this: feeling more at ease online is genuinely worthwhile. It opens communication. It reduces isolation. It builds a degree of independence. And it's something that, with the right support, is entirely achievable at any age.
